CLASSES & WORKSHOPS
Teaching watercolor is a passion for me and I strive to help each student find their own voice with the medium. I schedule classes every other week so students have time to practice, play and process that which was covered in the previous class.
My classes are intimate groups that gather in selected studio space for individual instruction on projects directed by me as well as those individual projects chosen by the student(s).
Ocala Palms Classes, Ocala Florida - A community and surrounding neighborhood group of artists that meet the first and third Tuesday of each month from 1:30 - 4:30 in the Arts and Crafts room of the Clubhouse. Please contact me directly if you are interested in this class.

Oak Run Classes, Ocala Florida - A community art group of all skill levels and mediums. Watercolor class is held on select Wednesday mornings, 9:30 a.m. to 12:00, at the Oak Run, Island Club.

Master the Possibilities, Ocala Florida - This learning center is located in Circle Square Commons, adjacent to On Top of the World Communities (off Hwy 200 and SW 80th). The concentrated time of a workshop offers uninterrupted exploration of select topics for artists. Common topics include: How to Paint en Plein Air; Working with Watercolor Canvas; Traditional Watercolor and Exciting Collage Techniques; Fun with Underpaintings; Watercolor and Painting with the White of the Paper; and many other subjects. I will travel to your location for groups with a minimum of ten students and a maximum of twenty and I will provide or have for sale select supplies and/or unique project items, as needed. Please contact me to request a workshop or demonstration for your group. Cost: Determined by host organization.

Not only does one benefit from the concentrated time and uninterrupted exploration of his/her creativity, but travels away from home offer new experiences in sites, history, culture, and friends that are unmatched in any other setting. Your senses and artistry are awakened in whole new ways. You will be amazed how much your paintings improve once you allow yourself the experience of living in a scene you will capture in paint!

Paints:
Holbein, Windsor & Newton, and Rembrandt are all excellent brands of watercolor paint. I prefer transparent colors and a good starting point is:

New Gamboge French Ultramarine Blue
Raw Sienna Cobalt Blue
Quinacridone Gold Cerulean Blue
Burnt Sienna or Daniel Smith's Antwerp Blue

NOTE: Not all colors are required, especially the greens as these are easily mixed. We will use what you have. Just be sure to have all your paints squeezed out and dry before class. Yes, I work from dried paints.
Brushes:
- 1 ½" Wash Brush
- Script Brush - I prefer Silver Brush Black Velvet #1 or #3
- 1/2" Flat Brush
- Small (#6), Medium (#8 and/or #10), and Large (#12 or #14) Round brushes. An excellent all purpose round brush is the Silver Brush Black Velvet Script Liner #8, which is my workhorse.
Palette:
- Stephen Quiller Round or Traveler Palette - I prefer this because you can arrange your paints like a color wheel.
PAPER:
- 140lb. or 300lb. Arches Bright White Cold or Hot Pressed Paper
We will work mostly on sheets 15"X22" or larger. If you do not have this paper I will have supplies of it for purchase.
Miscellaneous:
- Journal/notebook - for your notes and ideas/thoughts.
- Misting Bottles:
one fine mister (the center tube is very narrow, often body sprays and some hair sprays have this) and
one big blobber (the center tube is rather thick, like a Windex bottle). - Water Container - Preferably one with 3 or 4 good size wells like the round storage bin at Lowe's or Home Depot. The main ingredient of watercolor is WATER and we're going to use our fair share of it.
- Support board - Gator Board, masonite and plexi-glass are all good choices.
- HB or 2H Drawing Pencil, Masking Fluid, #4 Palette Knife or smaller - the key is that the tip be very flexible & somewhat pointy, Paper Towels, Salt (Kosher, Sea or Table), Saran Wrap, and Wax Paper
REFERENCE MATERIAL:
Bring photos, magazine clippings, or live samples of vegetables, fruits, flowers or other subjects you would like to paint. Look for strong light and dark contrast.
